Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea look set to win the transfer race for Matthijs de Ligt this summer.
The Dutch defender’s future at Juventus looks seriously uncertain in this transfer window, and it looks like a deal seems impossible for Barcelona’s other suitors, according to a report from Todo Fichajes.
The report however states that Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea could be ready to pay the €85m needed to sign De Ligt, so we may see these top talents in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old could be a hugely important signing for United at the moment, with new manager Erik ten Hag likely to want to work with his former Ajax man again.
The Red Devils would surely do well to pay big for De Ligt as they need an upgrade on the struggling Harry Maguire if they are to improve after the disappointment of 2021/22.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are also lacking central defensive options, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen becoming free agents this summer, while Thiago Silva is not getting any younger.
The Blues have also been eyeing Jules Kounde, but we imagine De Ligt would be a tempting alternative if they don’t land the Sevilla star.
Liverpool don’t really look like they are in desperate need of a new centre-back as Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are in the role, while Joe Gomez is also an option.
Still, the Reds may think it’s worth securing the signing of a top young player like De Ligt to possibly replace fellow Dutch international Van Dijk, who turns 31 next season.
